When I was 6 months pregnant with our first daughter, my husband and I went out to grab some ice cream at a local restaurant. We walked in and sat down quickly and the foreign waitress/owner came over to take our order.
"You are both so pretty!" she said, "brother, sister, brother sister?" she asked, wagging her finger back and forth between the two of us.
My husband stared at her blankly, shocked, while I gently touched my hardly showing baby bump and said "well, I sure hope not."
The waitress laughed and walked off, but the memory of her assumption has always stuck with us.
Later that year, at our daughter's baby shower, a family member remarked on her appearance in the usual feature-finding nit picking that you'd expect. "She has your eyes....his nose...blah blah blah," but then she went on to add "well, its no surprise...you two look alike anyway."
HUH?!
Again, I was stunned. The second time in mere months we'd been compared in this way.
This led to baby photo hunting by both our moms, and lo and behold...if the backgrounds hadn't been dissimilar, we could have been baby twins. Did this mean that we still resembled each other though? We couldn't see it..but maybe you will?
Recently I came across an article that made me a bit more accepting of our twinsie phenomenon.
The study found that men are more attracted to women who look like....well, THEM! (Go figure, right?) This sounded like good news for me though!
"French researchers asked 100 men to choose the women they found most appealing from a selection of photographs.
They then asked a similar number of men to do the same with another selection of four faces which had been computer manipulated to look more like them, the 'Daily Mail' reported. The results showed that 37 per cent of men in the second experiment said the face which most resembled theirs was the most attractive." Men attracted to women who look like them: study
You can read the rest of the study here.
So what do you think? Are men more attracted to women who resemble them? Is this narcissism or an unconscious attraction?
Does this explain why they say couples married a long time eventually look alike?
Link up your photos with your husbands...I want to see some look-a-likes!
Here are a few more of ours....what do ya think?
